Perhaps it was in an attempt to make a television audience feel more comfortable that a woman was cast as the Richard Byron who became the transgender Carlotta. It looked to me like a mistake at least, if not something like cowardice: a failure to really go into the subject. Similarly, there was little interest in why the eponymous main character felt the need to change: it was simply presented as being the case. So it ended up as a merely entertaining telemovie.
