Paris, Texas (Wim Wenders, 1984) wr. L.M. Kit Carson, Sam Shepard, music Ry Cooder; Harry Dean Stanton, Nastassja Kinski, Dean Stockwell, Aurore Clément, Hunter Carson
I think the reason I don't like this is that I've been a Ry Cooder fan since the 1970s. On the soundtrack of this film he plays the same doleful piece of music about 47 times. The story is long and tedious, but it is in the end positive, and I think the music is misrepresentative, and is there because of Wenders' superficial interest in the Blues. As a 'musician' (AMusA failed), I can tolerate only so much repetition, and there is far too much.
It's a pity, because Stanton is straightforwardly good, and Kinski is lovely and not loopy (as she in that film by David Lynch). It's actually quite a nice family movie that's about an hour too long because of Wenders' egotism.
